Objective: Describe major battles of the American Revolution. Agenda: Please use your Chromebook for this week’s notes. Do Now: What challenges did the Continental Army face at Valley Forge? Discuss do now and review battles Work on skits HW: page 134 #2a and 3B A+ answers

2 June 1776 Battle in New York – a fleet of British ships approached New Yok Bay. Led by General Howe. In a series of battles Howe pounded the Continental Army off of Long Island into New Jersey. Nov 1776 Washington has 6,000 men remaining who are tired and discouraged and are on the run with their contracts about to end on December 31st. General Howe left New Jersey in Hessian control. Dec 1776 Battle of Trenton- Washington and 2,400 soldiers rowed across the Delaware River(freezing and icy) and when they got to the shore they marched onto the British Camp. Morale was low and when they marched they were tired and some didn’t have shoes. Surprised the British and took more than 900 Hessian prisoners. Jan 1777 Battle at Princeton - At Princeton, the Patriots leave their campfire to attack the British Troops. There were their because of the Battle of Trenton. They circled around and attack them from behind. The British Troops thought they were still at their camp because the fire was still buring. Oct 1777 Used obstacles to surround Burgoyne and his army. Forced him to give up his army. Burgoyne was on his way to take over different cities. Traveled down the Hudson River on their way to Saratoga. Obstacles included cut down trees. They got France and Spain to help the Patriots. May 1778 Continental Congress and France France saw after the Battle of Saratoga that the Americans actually had a chance to win the war. The French gave the Americans Supplies ,troops, Navy. Sept 1779 Naval Battle- John Paul Jones captures the British warship Serapis. The Continental Army used less than 100 ships but took down more than 200 British ships. Jones ship’s artillery (weapons) were knocked out early in the battle but Jones would not surrender. Eventually the Americans wore down the British and won.

3 June 1776 A fleet of British ships approach militia. Redcoats captured many of them and their supplies. In New York Bay. Contenental army was forced off long island. Nov 1776 The continental army was on the run, rest of Washingtons army was very tired and dis-couraged. Most of their contracts were ending on December 31, low on supplies, needed revenge. Also worried that more people wont join because it looks like they are going to lose. Dec 1776 The patriots came across the Delaware river . The battle of Trenton, attacked after a celebration. The Hessians were asleep when the patriots attacked . The Hessians are mercenaries so the weren't as motivated to give their lives. The patriots took more than 900 prisoners. Jan 1777 In Princeston, N.J. Patriots attacked the British ,they left their fires to burn, so it looked like they were there. They snuck behind the British, and surprised them. Oct 1777 Saratoga, New York .Burgonyne’s Bristish army had to surrendered to General Horatio Gates . The patriots cut down tree’s so the British had to go around . May 1778 France and the Patriots have an alliance. They supply supplies and ammunition. Also ships, soldiers, and a navy. The battle of Saratoga in 1777 persuaded the French king that the colonists could win the war against the British. Sept 1779 John paul jones was leading the patriots . They used 100 boats but the british lost 200 boats. Important naval win
