1 C.T. Quiz Clear all desks NOTHING but a PENCIL
Turn in on printer when done

2 Return of Anatomical Terminology Project
Tape on p. 12

3 5.3 Muscle and Nervous Tissue
Sponge: Set up Cornell Notes on pg. 25 Topic: 5.3 Muscle and Nervous Tissue Essential Question: What is the MAJOR difference between skeletal and smooth muscle tissue? 5.3 Muscle and Nervous Tissue 2.1 Atoms, Ions, and Molecules What is the MAJOR difference between skeletal and smooth muscle tissue? Text: P Get out C.T. Microscope Lab for signature- put in pile Get papers in tray

4 Objective Students will understand the general characteristics and functions of muscle and nervous tissue Students will compare and contrast the types of muscle tissue

5 Muscle Tissue Characteristics
P. 25 3. Muscle tissues are contractile, meaning they can shorten and thicken As they contract, they move body parts 3 types: Skeletal Smooth Cardiac

6 Muscle and Nervous Tissue Handout

7 Skeletal Muscle Tissue
Features: Each cell has many nuclei Cells are long and narrow Have alternating light and dark cross markings called striations (stripes) Controlled by conscious effort (Voluntary)

8 Skeletal Muscle Tissue
Functions: Movement Move the head, trunk, limbs, and enable us to make facial expressions, write, talk, chew, swallow and breathe Location: Usually attaches to bones

9

10 Skeletal Muscle

11 Smooth Muscle Tissue Features: Lacks striations
Cells are shorter, spindle shaped, and have one nucleus Involuntary- cannot usually control by conscious effort

12 Spindle-shaped

13 Smooth Muscle Tissue Functions:
Involuntary movement of internal organs Location: In walls of hollow internal organs--Stomach, intestines, urinary bladder, blood vessels, uterus EX: move food through the digestive tract

14 *No striations

15 Smooth Muscle

16 Cardiac Muscle Tissue Features: Striated (striped)
Branched and form complex networks with single nucleus Involuntary- Can function without nerve impulses

17 Cardiac Muscle Tissue Functions: Heart movements
Makes up the bulk of the heart, and pumps blood through the heart chambers and into blood vessels Location: Is ONLY in the heart

18 Cardiac Muscle

19 Nervous Tissue P. 25 4. Nervous tissue is made up of highly specialized nerve cells

20 Nervous Tissue Features: Multi-polar Neurons
Cell with cytoplasmic extensions (arms) Functions: Sense changes in the environment and respond by transmitting nerve impulses Coordinate, regulate, and integrate many body functions

21 Nervous Tissue Location:
Found in the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves

22 Multi-polar Neuron

23 Work on your Notebook check
Due next Friday *Change p. 27 to p. 25 *Change p. 28 to p. 26 *No Cornell ?s on p. 19 EQs Cornell ?s Everything taped on CORRECT page

26 Ch. 5 Study Guide Take out your study guide for signature
IF NOT DONE YOU MAY NOT PARTICIPATE IN JEOPARDY GAME If too many people did not finish their study guide, WHOLE CLASS WILL NOT PLAY Please review your Ch. 5 Study guide for 5 minutes before we play Jeopardy

27 Objective The students will understand chapter 5 concepts
In groups, students will play Jeopardy to review concepts for their Ch. 5 test

28 Whiteboards, Get your Whiteboards!!!!
One whiteboard/marker/eraser per table

29 Ch. 5 Jeopardy Review Game

30 Ch. 5 Test Place ALL materials in back of room or on first lab tables
Notebook check: Write name on notebook check Stick out of notebook like a bookmark on p. 19 Turn in to side of Mrs. Mc’s Desk Materials/desks: Place ALL materials in back of room or on first lab tables Arrange desks in neat rows

31 Ch. 5 Test Turn in answer sheet to Mrs. M’s printer
