The Background Bakau skills centre project ongoing for approx 15 years Part of Presidents International Award (D of E connections) GAMSCOT Regular Scottish Youth Groups Close links with Highland, Falkirk and D&G New skills centre being developed in Kerewan

Presidents International Award D of E has sister-organisations throughout Commonwealth Service, Skills, Physical Gambian emphasis on skills Bakau Centre Self-funding Skills car mechanics, cookery, woodwork, metalwork, business studies, IT… Kerewan under construction

Impetus for 2010 trip Meldrum pupils went out in 2009 and helped build a skills centre at Kerewan Directors link with the project Support from Wood Family Trust Link to D of E Award for pupils

What were doing 3 or 4 days at Bakau Motel(!), shared rooms, occasional running water and power, Restaurant Acclimatisation, preparation for project, some work locally, sight-seeing 4 or 5 days at Kerewan Building work, limited water / sanitation Sleeping in local school, group cooking Last few days at Bakau Some work etc., but mostly R & R?
