1 What is Stress? It is the body’s reaction to pressure, either mentally or physically. There are two kinds: Eustress = Good Stress Examples: Weddings, special date, birth of a baby etc. Distress = Bad Stress Examples: Death in family, divorce, injury, etc.

2 What are Stressors? What are some stressors that YOU deal with?!?
Things or events that cause us stress They are found everywhere and we cannot always get rid of or avoid them, but the way we deal with them will make them either good or bad. Common stressors are: School, family, friends, work, and others What are some stressors that YOU deal with?!?

3 Some Signs of Stress: 1) Physical Signs: Tiredness, injury, insomnia, headache, etc. 2) Emotional Signs: Crying, feeling anxious, nightmares, depression, etc. 3) Behavioral Signs: Acting-Out, extreme anger, hitting, punching, nervous twitch, etc.

4 How Do We Cope With Stress in a Positive Way?
First we must ACKNOWLEDGE that we are stressed. Then we can deal with it! Recognize that we cannot always eliminate stress, so we must learn to manage it. Since everyone is different, everyone will have different ways to mange stress. But, some common ways are: Diet Regular Sleep Being Alone (Different from feeling lonely) Exercise Building Good Relationships WHAT ELSE?

5 Other Ways to Cope With Stress
Get Organized (Clean your room, locker, Make a “To-Do” List, etc.) Don’t Procrastinate Mentally count to 10, 20, 30…100 if needed to calm down. Take a Break (Do something you like to do, watch a movie, go for a walk, etc.) Find Something to Make You Laugh! Say “No” to Some Things
