The Perfect Pizza Trevor Clark and Eric Tingey

2 Introduction Many college students struggle with baking in general
How much time does it take to completely bake a pizza? How much time does it take the pizza to cool so it is at the pristine eating temperature? We will calculate the time required to bake and cool a pizza using lumped capacitance and verify the time required with a Freschetta pepperoni pizza

3 Process Using a thermocouple inserted in the pizza crust, we measured the pizza temperature during baking and cooling The baking temperature was determined to be about 95° C (203° F) as this is where the temperature leveled off in the oven Through trial and error, we found the optimal eating temperature of the pizza, in order to avoid tongue burnage, was about 71° C (170° F)

4 Calculations

5 Results Calculated Recorded Time to Cook 23.1 minutes 24 minutes
Time to Cool 8.5 minutes 7 minutes

6 Conclusions Values differ slightly due to:
Human error The properties of each ingredient (e.g. cheese, pepperoni, tomato sauce, etc.) Environmental factors (elevation, humidity, air flow) Overall, the calculations and actual results match up fairly well. Surprisingly, the instructions on the pizza box are good enough to follow. Thus, a college student should set aside approximately 31 minutes for the baking and cooling of a freschetta pizza (plus the amount of time required to preheat the oven).
