Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
Definition DSL is a very high-speed connection that uses the same wires as a regular telephone line. 17-Jan-19 Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
How DSL Works DSL uses equipment that separates data transmissions into different frequency bands. telephone wire will carry three or more channels of information: The Normal telephone communications low frequencies. Data uploaded from the customer medium frequencies Data downloaded to the customer higher frequencies. 17-Jan-19 Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
Advantages of DSL You can leave your Internet connection open and still use the phone line for voice calls. The speed is much higher than a regular modem. DSL can use the phone line does not necessarily require new wiring 17-Jan-19 Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
Disadvantages of DSL A DSL connection works better when you are closer to the provider's central office. The connection is faster for receiving data than it is for sending data over the Internet. The service is not available everywhere. 17-Jan-19 Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
Kinds of DSL Asymmetrical DSL (ADSL): ADSL divides up the available frequencies So that connection speed for receiving is three to four times faster than sending. Users look at, or download, much more than they send, or upload. Very high bit-rate DSL (VDSL): This is a fast connection, but works only over a short distance. Symmetric DSL (SDSL): Used mainly by small businesses. Does not allow using the phone at the same time The speed of receiving and sending is the same. Rate-adaptive DSL (RADSL): The modem can adjust the speed of the connection depending on the length and quality of the line. 17-Jan-19 Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
DSL Equipments ADSL uses two pieces of equipment: DSL Modem on the customer end DSL Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) at the DSL provider. 17-Jan-19 Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
9
Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
DSL Modem It is the point where data from the user's computer or network is connected to the DSL line. 17-Jan-19 Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
10
DSL Access Multiplexer (DSLAM)
DSLAM on DSL service provider receive customer connections. It aggregates different customers connections onto a single high-capacity connection to the Internet. Additional functions: Routing. Dynamic IP addressing. 17-Jan-19 Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)

CONCLUSION Digital subscriber Line is the technology of the future: Easy to be implemented. An always on service can be used with the telephone. The speed is much higher than a regular modem. 17-Jan-19 Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
