In this unit of work you will: Consider the importance of water for life Examine how we use water Explore where in the world water is found Find out why some places have too much and too little water Find out about the effects of drought and desertification

4 Lesson Objectives: To recognise the ways in which we consume water To understand the importance of water to quality of life To be able to estimate personal water consumption

Main Task: In groups look at activity sheet Identify how you use water and agree an estimate of how much you use per day in litres.

6 What is the minimum daily amount of water needed for a good quality of life? What would life be like living below the daily minimum amount?

7 Did you know...? The average person in the UK uses 150 litres of water per day Direct water consumption includes: 2 litres for teeth, 25 litres for a shower, 90 litres for a bath, 9 litres per toilet flush 2 litres to drink. The UN recommends a minimum daily allowance of 50 litres per day.

Look carefully at the following countries. UK France USA Brazil Kenya Spain Mosambique Decide how many litres of water the average person in each country should use in a day. (think about climate, industry, wealth etc?)
