4 New vs. Old Money Ways in which old money disapproves of new money
Tom and Daisy’s views of Gatsby and his associates/party goers

5 The Jazz Age Stereotypical behavior of people in the 20’s
Gatsby’s parties and guests and how they reflect the carefree, partying lifestyle of this time

6 Women in the 20’s Pressures upon women of this time period
Conflict of having more freedom, but also having to still be in a lower position to men Daisy’s mentality that ignorance is bliss

7 1st and 3rd Hour Assignment
In groups, find a quote from the novel for each of the 5 themes and explain how it reflects the theme. Themes: The American Dream Wealth’s Consequences The Jazz Age New vs. Old Money Women in the 20’s

8 2nd Hour Assignment Look over your theme explanations from last Thursday/Friday. Circle the explanation you are least confident about. As a class, we will discuss how to make explanations more thorough.
