A few weeks ago you were introduced to the Enlightenment and its optimistic ideas about society and human beings’ progress. You were also introduced to the Enlightenment’s ideas of rational thought and scientific worldview.
We then took a trip through the 18th century where Enlightenment views are changing people’s lives in some places and not changing them in others (continuity and change)
Then we studied the massive and rapid change brought on by industrialization.
We can look at the Industrial Revolution as one of the outcomes of the Enlightenment – it’s focus on science and progress. BUT- we have to ask:
