Our Year 3 Team! Mrs Humphris Miss Flynn Mrs Jenkins Miss Brown Miss Porter Mrs Shahid Welcome to our Year 3 curriculum. I am … Explain a bit about yourself.

3 ROOTS and Values! Firstly, we will look at our values and ROOTS.

4 It is what we use to support behaviour in our school
It is what we use to support behaviour in our school. It consists of a tree, a yellow and red lead and 4 golden birds.

5 Our Roots Respect all people, animals and our environment
Overcome challenges and never give up Open our minds to creativity and curiosity Take care of our bodies and minds to grow healthily Speak kindly and listen to others These are displayed at the bottom of our tree. We believe that these roots help to grow a well rounded child. (Read roots)

6 Consequence Ladder These are displayed at the bottom of our tree. We believe that these roots help to grow a well rounded child. (Read roots)

7 Yellow leaf – This is our warning leaf
Yellow leaf – This is our warning leaf. It helps children to see that the choices they are currently making need reflecting upon. Children who fall to the yellow leaf are normally in learning zone 2 or 1 which do not show our optimal learning behaviours.

8 Red leaf – This is an indication that reflection time is necessary as continued wrong choices are being demonstrated. Once moved to the red leaf, children will have a minimum of 5 minutes reflection time at our designated zone in the classroom. Children are invited to think about the choices they have made, the root they have not followed and what they can do to restore good behaviour.

9 The Golden Birds These are our values: Aspire, thrive, achieve and enjoy! We use these to reward positive behaviours and to show recognition to those children who are always following the roots. If they get onto an ‘enjoy’ bird – it usually means they have shown enjoyment in their learning, or as teachers, we have seen something that has made us enjoy teaching them. i.e, helping a friend, being happy and enthusiastic about their learning. If they get onto an ‘achieve’ bird – it usually means that they have faced a challenge, usually really personal to themselves and they have overcome a challenge and therefore achieved a goal or personal target. If they get onto a ‘thrive’ bird – it means that they have pushed themselves and succeeded in a task or have really taken pride and care in their work. If they get onto an ‘aspire’ bird – it means they have completely gone above and beyond in a particular area of their learning. They havent given up, been independent and have pushed themselves as far as they possibly can to improve and be the best. It’s also for those children that are consistently in learning zones 4/5 and never fall off the tree.

13 Staying safe In our school we liked to call ourselves a family and want all children to feel safe and apart of our family. We also want you as parents to feel confident in us that we will keep your children safe and want you to feel safe and apart of our family also. During the school day we have a couple of things that the children are aware of to make them feel safer.

14 Protective hands Every child has a protective hand.
We all have the right to feel safe. Nothing is so awful that you can’t talk to someone about it. This is what the children design at the beginning of the year. We ask them to write 5 people who they feel most confident to go to with a problem or a worry that have. We encourage them to speak to any one on their hand whenever they need to.

15 Worry box Every classroom has a worry box that the children are able to use at any time. The worry box is there for the children who are’nt confident enough to speak aloud about a worry they have. They are encouraged to write anything, even if it is a small thing, so that we can re-assure them and resolve any issues.

16 Safeguarding Miss Lovelock is the designated Leader for Safeguarding in our family.

17 Bullying If you feel your child is being bullied, please make an appointment with your class teacher to voice your concerns. All worries will be taken seriously and investigated. We take all of your concerns very seriously, and want the best for you and your child. We will work in partnership with you to resolve any issues that you have to make you feel confident in us and your children safe.

18 School uniform These are the main colours we allow for uniform. Including black/blue trousers, navy blue sweaters (no hoods), white socks and black shoes!

19 PE KIT! It is very important that your child wears the correct P.E kit. It is very unhygienic for them to be running around/sweaty and then have to carry on in their clothes for the rest of the day. I prefer them to wear navy blue top/bottoms and trainers or pumps if possible, but black is fine. It promotes us as a school, especially when we go to events as we look smarter like most other schools in MK.
