1. 3RD GRADE NATIVE AMERICANS RESEARCH PROJECT

2. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
This project should be one that is fun and exciting for the kids. This is NOT a project that is intended to drive research. Students should use their Native American scrapbooks (i.e., pocketbooks) that came home. They have several artifacts that they can us to help them: mini-books on each region, graphic organizers, and the study guide for the Native American’s test. Students can also use google or other forums to supplement their work.

3. Please keep this project fun and simple!
Each slide should have just enough content to allows students a few talking points. Bulleted lists work best.
Please do not include a lot of verbatium written content. Sometimes it makes the kids more nervous if they have to turn their back to the class and read word for word what is on their slide.

4. The slides have been provided as a template to help your child to think of things to add for each of the criteria mentioned in the rubric.
Please include pictures for your region. Google is a great place to grab pictures that will help enhance each slide. You can add the picture directly to the slide or insert a new slide just for the picture.

5. Once your project is finished, you can place the slides on a thumb drive or them to Mrs. McDavid at .
Each child will have 5-6 minutes reserved for their presentation. Students are not expected to talk for a full 6 minutes, but we want to make sure that everyone gets a turn.
Be sure to delete the instruction slides before saving this file for editing (slides 1-5).

7. Region Background
Use this space to talk about the region of your tribe. What is the average temperature? What about the climate (cold, hot, dry, etc.)? What water sources are present (rivers, lakes, streams, etc.)? If you know a major river, be sure to name it. What resources are in this region (natural, human, capital resources)?

Use this space to include a map of your region. Where is this region located in relation to the United States (west coast, southeast, etc.)?

9. Housing
Use this space to discuss housing for this region. What were the homes like? What were they made from? Were they permanent dwellings or ones that could be taken down and moved from place to place?

10. Transportation
How did the people of this region get from place to place? What forms of transportation did this region use?

11. Clothing
What was clothing like for the people of this region? What did the women wear? What did the men wear? Where their special clothes for celebrations or ceremonies? What was the clothing made from (animal skin, etc.)?

12. Food
What did the people of this region do for food? How they hunt for food? Did they grow crops or hunt and gather?

13. Interesting Facts
Use this space to discuss interesting facts about your region. You must include at least THREE interesting or fun facts. I bet you found out some really cool things that maybe none of your classmates know. We can’t wait to hear them!
