It is important to note that just because Cal Poly SLO is known for engineering does not mean it is the ONLY CSU that offers it as a major – many, if not all, CSUs offer this as a major and you should not limit yourself to applying only to the schools you know of or have heard of…there are 23 campuses to choose from – visit their websites, see what they’re about and see if you envision yourself there.

2018 freshman must respond to 4 of 8 Questions
Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time.
Every person has a creative side, and it can be expressed in many ways: problem solving, original and innovative thinking, and artistically, to name a few. Describe how you express your creative side.
What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and demonstrated that talent over time?
Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or worked to overcome an educational barrier you have faced.
Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?
Think about an academic subject that inspires you. Describe how you have furthered this interest inside and/or outside of the classroom.

What do you believe makes you stand out as a strong candidate for admissions to the University of California?
Word Count: Maximum of 350 words per response
These essay help the UC system get a broader view of the student. The essay gives the student an opportunity to share information about them that the university might not know based on their grades and test scores.

20. When Filling out Your Application
Read instructions thoroughly
Have a copy of your transcript
Know your SAT/ACT scores
Know your social security number
Know your parents personal information and income
Have someone review your application
Type your personal statement in a word document before as a first draft. Check the word count.

21. DACA Recipients
Please be aware, that the phasing out of DACA does not in any way affect your eligibility to apply for colleges or universities.
Students in California that have attended at least 3 years to a public school, are eligible to receive financial assistance through the DREAM Act.
