1 Anatomy of larynx Prof. Abdulameer Al-Nuaimi
E. mail:

2 Larynx, extends from tip of epiglottis C3, to lower edge of cricoid cartilage C6.
It is formed of cartilaginous framework, connected by ligaments and muscles, and lined by mucous membrane. Laryngeal cartilages: A- Single cartilages 1- Thyroid 2- Cricoid 3- Epiglottis B- Paired cartilages 1- Arytenoid 2-Corniculate 3-Cuneiform

3 Pharynx and larynx

4 Relations of larynx

5 Laryngeal mucosa Larynx is lined by pseudo stratified ciliated columnar epithelium, with goblet cells (respiratory epithelium) Except the followings (they are covered by stratified squamous epithelium) 1-True vocal cords 2-Tip of epiglottis 3-Aryepiglottic fold

21 Nerve supply 1- Motor: all muscles are supplied by Recurrent laryngeal nerve, except crico-thyroid muscle which is supplied by external branch of superior laryngeal nerve. 2- Sensory: Above vocal folds: by the internal branch of Superior laryngeal nerve Below vocal folds: by Recurrent laryngeal nerve.
