Writers conduct research for their memoirs by interviewing family members & friends. YOUR JOB TODAY: You will think about the kinds of questions you need to generate in order to interview family members or friends for collecting more relevant info for you memoir.

INFORM: When writers begin writing any piece they start with research. Memoirs = interview research Interviewing people who were present at the event. While the author may have been present other people may bring in new details and insights. **very important if you are writing a memoir on someone else’s memory.**

Present: WE are going to take another look at Erika’s story to analyze the types of questions she may have asked in order to be able to relate her tale to Ruth Vander Zee. Open Notebook and label it “Erika’s Questions” While I reread, Jot down ideas for questions that she may have posed to others in order to learn more about what happened to her.

Potential Questions When was I discovered on the grass? Where was the cattle car that I was thrown from headed? Who picked me up from the grass? To whom was I sent to live? Were there ever any questions asked about where I came from? What was the scenery like where I was found? What was the weather like?

Memoir writers collect and research a lot of information before they start to write. An essential component of this research may be to interview others to gather additional pertinent information. Did you succeed at your job? You will think about the kinds of questions you need to generate in order to interview family members or friends for collecting more relevant info for you memoir.
