I can define and explain a Memoir. LEARNING TARGET

A historical account or biography written from personal knowledge or special sources. An autobiography or a written account of one's memory of certain events or people. An essay on a learned subject. The proceedings or transactions of a learned society- Memoirs of the Horticultural Society. “A memoir is not what happens, but the person to whom things happen.” Virginia Wolf WHAT IS A MEMOIR?

1. A memoir is a story about something that happened to the writer. 2. The author is in the story somehow (either physically or is telling it from their point of view). 3. Many memoirs are stories about the author’s family or friends. 4. The story will make you feel something: happy, sad, mad, etc. 5. Memoirs are stories about events that are important to the writer. 6. Often, the book will end with the writer explaining why that event is important to them now or how it changed their life. 7. The author doesn’t tell you how he or she felt about the event, but shows you through the actions and conversations of the characters in the book. 8. A memoir is not an autobiography. It is a story about one important event in the author’s life. PIECES OF A MEMOIR
