1. When you have one in seven of the global population going hungry you know there’s a problem. When there’s just as many suffering from hidden hunger, the problem gets even deeper. Yet there is actually more than enough food to feed everyone on the planet.

2. FOOD FOR THOUGHT There are 1 billion people going hungry in our world.
1 billion more suffer from ‘Hidden Hunger’ – where they don’t have enough of the vitamins and minerals they need for a healthy, balanced diet.
The majority of those going hungry are actually poor farmers.
When you have one in seven of the global population going hungry you know there’s a problem. When there’s just as many suffering from hidden hunger, the problem gets even deeper. Yet there is actually more than enough food to feed everyone on the planet.

3. WHAT THIS MEANS
It is often the small-scale farmer who cannot produce enough food to eat or sell.
However, the biggest absurdity of this is that the majority of those going hungry live in rural areas, where most people make a living from farming a small patch of land or looking after a few animals. That means it is the people who are trying to make their living off the land who are the ones that often go hungry.

4. WHAT IS THE SA DOING?
The Salvation Army is helping these small-scale, rural farmers through animal and agricultural projects which help farmers support themselves and their families.
The Salvation Army aims to improve the small-scale, rural skills of farmers so that their produce can increase and they then have enough food for themselves and their families, as well as to sell.
The Salvation Army is providing training and education for the farmers which will help them obtain the skills and techniques that they need to have in order to get the best from their crops. Animals are also vitally important to poor communities as they can provide a variety of things, such as milk, eggs or meat.

5. HOW YOUR MONEY CAN HELP Shinoyi Nursery, Western Kenya
Shinoyi Nursery in Western Kenya is developing the land around the school for farming and to provide community training on farming practices. Most of the community rely on low-paying sugar cane as their only income. By encouraging them to diversify their crops, they can use their land wisely to provide food as well as an income for their families.

6. HOW YOUR MONEY CAN HELP Ertuo village, China
In Ertuo village, China, goats have been provided to the community as part of a wider programme helping to improve the lives and livelihoods of the community. These animals can then be used for breeding or to provide milk and meat for their families. Villagers agree to pass on some of the goat kids to other families in need, ensuring the project keeps on expanding after the initial goats are given.
