2. Flying the Flag
Displayed from sunrise to sunset everyday and on all National holidays and patriotic occasions
If it is flown at night, it MUST have a light shining on it
Flag should be hoisted briskly, and lowered ceremoniously

3. Displaying the Flag
When 2 or more flags of different nations are displayed they should be on separate staffs and all the same height

4. Displaying the Flag
When the U.S. Flag is flown with other state and/or organizational flags and they are on separate staffs, the US flag should be in the middle and higher than the others

5. Displaying the Flag
When two or more flags are flown from the same staff and one is the US flag, the US flag should be at the top or point of the flagpole.

When the US flag is displayed over a speaker’s platform, it should be flat, behind, and above the speaker

When the flag is displayed on a staff near a speaker’s podium it should be to the speaker’s right and slightly in front of the speaker’s platform in a position of superior prominence.

The US flag should be placed over a casket with the union at the head and over the left shoulder of the body.

The flag should NEVER touch the ground. It must be disposed of properly if it does.
Proper disposal ends with the flag being ceremoniously burned
The flag is flown at half staff during times of national mourning
The only time the US flag is flown upside down is during times of Dire Distress.
The flag is never dipped to anyone on any occasion, not even to the POTUS.

Blue field (called canton or union) has stars. Blue is for courage

Flag has 50 stars, one for each state. The 50th star is for Hawaii, added to the union in 1960.

16. National Anthem
By the “dawn’s early light” of September 14, 1814, Francis Scott Key, who was aboard a ship several miles distant, could just make out an American flag waving above Fort McHenry. British ships were withdrawing from Baltimore, and Key realized that the United States had survived the battle and stopped the enemy advance. Moved by the sight, he wrote a song celebrating “that star-spangled banner” as a symbol of America’s triumph and endurance.
