5 The Changing World 1 The degradation of the morality of the society.

6 The Unchanging Word 1 The Epistle to the Hebrews:
Written to a group of Jewish Christians who faced tremendous persecution for their faith. Emphasis: Christology – the superiority of Christ as the Prophet, Priest-King and Mediator. Warnings – 5 warning passages. Exhortations (Heb. 13:22).

7 The Unchanging Word 1 WARNING PERILOUS TIMES AHEAD (2TIM. 3:1-5)

8 The Revelation of God 1 God has revealed Himself to mankind (Heb. 1:1-2). The Natural Revelation of God – sufficient to point men to a creator. The Special Revelation of God – to direct men to God Himself. The Progressive Revelation of God – from the OT to the NT. The Finality of the Revelation of God – all revelation leads to Christ.

9 Give Earnest Heed 1 “give earnest heed” (prosechō) – bringing a ship into mooring, to secure the ship. “let them slip” (pararrhueō) – a ship drifting away.

10 Give Earnest Heed 1 Faith can only come about when we give earnest heed to the Word of God (Rom. 10:17). To attain the truth. To retain what we learnt. To maintain in the truth. Learning God’s Word – to learn, relearn and unlearn.

11 Danger: Neglecting God’s Word
1 Text: Heb. 2:2-4. The Words of the Angels: Angels were seen as messengers which God sent to bring His Word unto men (Ps. 68:17; Deut. 33:2). Every transgression and disobedience against the word of angels will be punished. Sin is any want of conformity unto, or the transgression of the Law of God.

12 Danger: Neglecting God’s Word
1 The Word of Christ: Far superior to that of the angels. It was proclaimed by the Son of God Himself. It was confirmed by eye-witnesses. It was authenticated by God Himself. Greater judgment to those who neglect the Word of Christ. If men neglect the truth of God’s Word, they will be drifting into damnation.

13 Closing 1 Ponder: How will you be spending the rest of your life in response to God’s Word? (Matt. 7:21-27)
