Purpose
The purpose of the Plans theme is to facilitate
communication and control by defining the means of
delivering the products (the where and how, by whom,
and estimating the when and how much).
Effective project management relies on effective planning as
without a plan there is no control
Planning provides project personnel with information on:
What is required
How it will be achieved and by who, using what specialist
equipment and resources
When events will happen
Whether the targets (time, cost, quality, scope, risk and
benefits) are achievable.

The philosophy behind producing plans in PRINCE2 is that products required are identified first, and only then are the activities, dependencies and resources required to deliver those
products identified.
This is known as Product-based Planning and is used for the project Plan, the Stage Plan and, optionally, the Team Plan.
Each step in the Planning procedure may need to be revisited
on completion of later steps.

PRINCE2 uses a technique known as Product-based Planning
To identify, define and analyse the plan’s products.
Product-based Planning is iterative. In the Case of Product Descriptions – at first simple title and statement of purpose.
The format and presentation of the Product Breakdown Structure and Product Flow Diagram is determined by Personal Preference. W
