The role "RESCO" is created
The Statistical Program Committee (SPC) of November 2001 establishes the Regional Statistics Co-ordination Officer (RESCO) role In 2002 the Working Party discusses the tasks of RESCOs assurance of a smooth data flow of all types of regional statistics from data suppliers to Eurostat co-ordination with other data producing institutions in the Member State, assistance in exchanging meta-data, the distribution of information from Eurostat to the national partners. The decision of the SPC of November 2001 concerning the RESCO was summarised. The various tasks of the Regional Statistics Co-ordination Officer (RESCO) were explained: the assurance of a smooth data flow of all types of regional statistics from data suppliers to Eurostat, co-ordination with other data producing institutions in the Member State, working towards a harmonised data format of the data flow from NSOs, assistance in exchanging meta-data (methodological texts), the distribution of information from Eurostat to the national partners. The work of RESCOs is essential for efficient co-operation

Tasks of the Working group
To organise the statistical information required to design, implement, monitor and evaluate spatially targeted EU policies To safeguard, implement and further develop the territorial classifications To develop methods in cooperation with the ESS and beyond that allow cost-effective production and user-friendly dissemination To further improve the quality To improve the relationship between users and producers of statistics
