What is a book that has had a strong influence on you. How or why did it influence you so powerfully?

5 Making Groups/Learning Teams
Take the personality quiz For each personality type, choose a number along the continuum 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree) When you’re done, we will score the quiz & look at what the results indicate How accurately do the results show your actual personality? Scoring the quiz Type #1: (3 Qs) – if majority of answers are ‘4~5’, you tend to Type #1 Type #2: (3 Qs) – if majority of answers are ‘1’, you tend to Type #2 Type #3: (3 Qs) – if majority of answers are ‘5’, you tend to Type #3 Type #4: (5 Qs) – if majority of answers are ‘1~2’, you tend to Type #4

6 Making Groups/Learning Teams
Collect your belongings and move to the back of the classroom I will ask for each “Personality Type” in turn – raise your hand, for example, for “Type 1” Sit in the classroom as directed; this will be your group for the time being Ideally, we’ll have 6~7 groups of 5 students each – may have to move some people around Please be patient, this will take a bit of time (and be chaotic!)

7 INTRODUCE YOURSELF This is your learning team for the time being – introduce yourself to your new group by sharing the following: Your name Where you’re from Your favorite book (remember your journaling exercise) Your favorite movie Your role model Countries you have visited (and which you especially liked) Your personal goals for this class

9 Literature Circle Roles
SUMMARIZER: Summarize to your group what you read for today. Consider the following: What has happened in this part of the story? Who are the characters (major & important minor char.)? Is there a clear protagonist/antagonist? WORD MASTER: In your reading, what words, expressions, idioms did you find interesting or important? Make a list of new & interesting vocabulary. CONNECTOR: What does the reading remind you of in another book/movie/your own life or someone else’s life? DISCUSSION DIRECTOR: Create some discussion questions (3~4) for your group based on the reading. During your Lit Circle discussion, keep everyone focused on the task. Be sure everyone contributes according to their role and asks/answers some questions/gives opinions. CULTURE COLLECTOR: How is the story similar to or different from in important ways your own culture or life? What is strange or what is familiar about the story?
