5 Surveys show that stigma is real for people with mental health problems …
70% had had negative reactions regarding their mental health problems from friends It leads to depression – 26% of people who experienced MH stigma say it makes them want to give up on life It actively stops people from seeking help, socialising and applying for jobs Figures taken from Time to Change

6 What about misconceptions?
You don’t look ill. It’s not that bad anyway, it’s not like you have cancer or anything. Friend 1: I heard you were in hospital – are you feeling better now? Friend 2: Shhh, don’t ask her that, it’ll make her kill herself again! Me: Err, I didn’t actually kill myself… I actually didn’t try to kill myself either. Zaid, aged 15, diagnosed with anxiety and depression I heard your mum put you in hospital because you’re a nutter. The teachers had better not let you have any scissors Haha, only joking! Sara, age 16, history of anorexia, depression and self harm. Has never attempted suicide. Fliss, aged 15, history of eating disorders and self harm
