AEROSPACE ENGINEER By William C Walsh.

THE HISTORY AND EVOLUTION OF AEROSPACE ENGINEERING

LEONARDO DA VINCIS FLYING MACHINE The first recorded attempt at aero space engineering was by Leonardo Da Vinci in 1488. There is no evidence that he built his flying machine.

1903 POWERED FLIGHT The Wright flyer is the first successful powered aircraft.

THE WRIGHT BROTHERS - PIONEERS OF THE AIR PLANE BUSINESS

1929 The G 38 is the first monoplane in history and can carry 6 tons. Being a mono wing increases lift and decreases drag compared to biplanes this was discovered by Hugo Junkers.

DAWN OF THE JET AGE Bell P-59 Airacomet Messerschmitt me 262

THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR PROPS Gloster MeteorHorten HO 229

WITH A NEW ENGINE COMES NEW ENGINEERING CHALLENGES Rolls-Royce MerlinJunkers Jumo 004

1952 RICHARD WHITCOMB DISCOVERED THE AREA RULE With area rule Without area rule

WHITCOMBS AREA RULE By simply shrinking the center section of the F102A in, it was able to achieve supersonic flight without an engine upgrade.

1958 THE JOB TITLE AEROSPACE ENGINEER FIRST USED

WE CHOOSE TO GO TO THE MOON IN THIS DECADE AND DO THE OTHER THINGS, NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE EASY, BUT BECAUSE THEY ARE HARD JFK SEPTEMBER 12 1962

1969 BOEING 747 the first flight of a wide-body, turbofan-powered commercial airliner, the 747, one of the most successful aircraft ever produced. It was the largest civilian passenger jet.

1995 The first aircraft to be designed without the use of paper sketches is the Boeing 777. It was completely designed using CAD. The triple 7 was the largest twin engine passenger jet made at that time.

2004 SPACESHIP ONE SpaceShipOne is the first privately owned space plane. A suborbital craft that completed its first spaceflight in 2004. The mother ship was named "White Knight".
