Settlers would receive 160 acres of land at least 21 or head of household. American citizen or immigrant filing for citizenship. built a house and lived on their claim 6 months out of a year. There were more than 80 million acres claimed.

11 Morrill Land Grant Act 1862 Gave state governments western land to sell to create income for “ land grant” colleges. These colleges would specialize in agriculture and mechanical arts. The state sold their land to LAND SPECULATORS.
