5 Tensor fascia lata Origin – anterior iliac crest
Insertion – lateral condyle of tibia Function – abducts and flexes thigh at hip

6 Tibialis anterior Origin – lateral condyle of the tibia
Insertion – medial cuneiform Function – Ankle dorsiflexion Forefoot inversion

7 gastrocnemius Origin – medial and lateral condyles of femur
Insertion – posterior calcaneous Function – Knee flexion Ankle plantar flexion

8 Soleus Origin – upper third of fibula Insertion – calcaneous
Function – flexes foot
