1 Library Research Support
SHURA simplified 1 Current situation: - SHURA is complicated and unfriendly - not everything is captured in SHURA = incomplete picture of ongoing research and its impact and possible issues with REF eligibility 2 Improvement: Elements - 28 November 2017, the Creating Knowledge board decided to purchase and implement Elements - Elements, a publications management system = your interface with the repository - very easy to use - you can find all kinds of metrics in there too 3 Ongoing work and switchover Work started in February Switchover planned for the 15 October 2018 Library Research Support

2 Elements: one place for all your intellectual contributions
Enter your publications only once, into only one system This is then pushed out from Elements to: SHURA your staff profile on the external web pages - you can choose which outputs should be displayed on your profile Academ (if you are in the Business School) Links with Converis so that research outputs can easily be associated with corresponding grants 4 One place Once Elements is operational, you will no longer use SHURA to deposit your work. The idea is that you will only need to deposit your work once, at the time it is accepted for publication, to one system. Elements will push your deposits to SHURA which will still exist as an external facing site for access to SHU publications The new system will also send a list of your publications to your staff profile on the external website. It will even allow you to choose which publications should be displayed on your profile. Library Research Support

Elements: easy to use Simpler, modern interface Enter your publications with minimal information The system finds your publications for you by searching in external databases, and sending you an asking you to "claim" your work (cf. ResearchGate) But you should still deposit your manuscript within three months of acceptance in order to comply with the REF Open Access policy! 5 Easy Elements will save you time. Depositing your work in the University’s repository will be much simpler. You will still need to make sure that you add your accepted manuscript to the system within 3 months of acceptance, but you will only need to give a very minimal amount of information when you do so. Elements will also find your work in databases such as Scopus and the Web of Science and ask you via to “claim” it as yours. This means that for most staff you can automatically maintain a complete record of much of your work, with all of the important publication details included. Library Research Support

Elements helps Using the new system to register all your intellectual contributions helps: with eligibility of your outputs for the next REF with compliance with your funders and the SHU OA policy to showcase your work properly on your staff profile to increase the reach of your work (e.g. downloads, reads and citations) to better understand the impact your work has Reports can be generated for planning and accreditation purposes, etc. 6 Advantages register all outputs in the same place helps with eligibility of your outputs for the next REF with compliance with your funders and the SHU OA policy to showcase your work properly on your staff profile to increase the reach of your work (e.g. downloads, reads and citations) to better understand the impact your work has Library Research Support
