2 Vocabulary convert – to change from one form to another
mixed number – a whole number and a fraction improper fraction – a fraction larger than one whole; the numerator is larger than the denominator

3 Mixed Numbers A mixed number has a part that is a whole and a part that is a fraction. *make sure to write the whole number first, by itself. Then write what's remaining as a fraction. 3 1 = 4

4 Write the mixed number:
3 3 = 4

5 Write the mixed number:
1 5 = 2

6 Write the mixed number:
2 2 = 3

7 Mixed Number → Improper Fraction
Multiply the whole number times the denominator Add your answer to the numerator Put that number over the denominator Add the numerator Put that number over the denominator Multiply the whole number times the denominator + 1 5 2 2 2 x 1 5 2 = 2 2

8 Convert the mixed number to an improper fraction:
1 9 4 2 2

9 Convert the mixed number to an improper fraction:
2 20 6 3 3

10 Convert the mixed number to an improper fraction:
2 17 3 5 5

11 Convert the mixed number to an improper fraction:
3 19 4 4 4

12 Convert the mixed number to an improper fraction:

13 Convert the mixed number to an improper fraction:

14 Improper Fractions A fraction in which the numerator is greater than the denominator. 8 = 4

15 Write the improper fraction:
19 = 4

16 Improper Fraction → Mixed Number
Divide the numerator by the denominator Put the remainder over the denominator Write the remainder over the denominator 2 Divide the numerator by the denominator R 1 2 5 2 4 1 5 1 2 = 2 2

17 Convert the improper fraction to a mixed number:
7 1 2 3 3

18 Convert the improper fraction to a mixed number:
8 2 2 3 3

19 Convert the improper fraction to a mixed number:
If there is no remainder then your answer is a whole number! 10 2 5
