These values are demonstrated by staff and pupils and are used at throughout the year to address behaviours for learning. RE – (Fostering a Christian ethos) Christian festivals such as Christmas and Easter will be learned about and celebrated through class activities and daily collective worship. Bible stories and teachings are shared through a weekly assembly.

What festivals do different faiths celebrate at this time of year and how? HIstory: When was the Great fire of London? How did it start? Why do we know about it? Why is it significant in British history? What was the sequence of events? How could you help at home? Talk to your child about places that are special to you and why? Visit special places in the local area. Can your child explain what makes them special? How could you help at home? Investigate how you can bend, twist and stretch materials such as playdough, paper, wire etc. How are they the same/ different?. Draw a picture of a building or object and label the different materials it has. Discuss left and right directions and turns. Can your child direct you to a specified place? How could you help at home? Encourage your child to be active. Talk to them about how they can refine and improve their performance. Ask questions to encourage your child to solve their own problems (e.g. when finding lost items or when making a model or puzzle.) What happens at the beginning, middle and end? What other stories do you know that are set in a place like this? How can we use this story to plan our own? What are your characters like? How can you show this in your writing? Instructions How are instructions set out on a page to make them easy to follow? What language can we use to show order? How can we make them easier for the reader to understand? What kind of words will you use to tell the reader what to do? Calculation Can you add and subtract 2 digit numbers accurately? Which written method will you use? How can you do this in your head? How can you use addition to help you solve subtraction calculations? How can we use our knowledge of addition to notice sequences in numbers? What number will come next? Position and Movement (and time) Can you turn ¼ turn anticlockwise/ clockwise? Can you turn half a turn anti/clockwise? How do you know? How can we use this to help us tell the time? CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT (Art, Music, Design technology) Art: What shapes and patterns can be found in special buildings? How is art used in religious buildings? What does it represent? How do stained glass windows represent a story? Can you represent a story using your own design? Music: How does the music make you feel? Why? What do you notice about the tempo of the music? How does it change? How can you change your voice to reflect the mood of the song? How could you help at home? Share stories set in the same setting, e.g. in the woods, a castle, underwater etc. How are they the same/different? Look at instructions at home for games or in recipe books. What features can your child spot? Help them to write instructions for a favourite game. How could you help at home? Talk about the stories represented by stained glass windows. Encourage your child to create a picture to represent a story they have read. You could even make stained glass biscuits! How could you help at home? Encourage your child to add and subtract mentally at any time e.g choosing a number of minis to see and counting how many more to get to that number, how many steps, etc. Point out the time when specific things happen e.g lunch, bedtime. .
