Half of the population (52%) have taken at least one of the six suggested actions to safeguard their future. Taking out a will is the most common action, followed by having a personal pension. Only 6% have nominated an Attorney to make decisions for them, if they become unable to do so themselves.

Females, younger age groups (18-44) and lower social grades are less likely to have safeguarded their future.

4. Key Insights
Almost half of the Irish population do not have any of the mentioned safeguarding actions in place.
This is particularly the case for younger age groups (18-44) but also lower social classes and females.
Wills and Pensions are the most used Safeguarding actions, while few have appointed an Attorney to make decision on their behalf, if becoming unable to do so themselves.
