2 Program Overview i.c.stars was founded in 1999 to develop 1,000 community leaders by 2020. Goals and Objectives Enable access to technology careers for resilient inner-city young adults Develop self-sufficient, well-rounded, entry level IT staff Build a new generation of future IT leaders Target Audience Age 18-27 GED or HS diploma Financial responsibilities outside of self (caregiver for relatives) 6 months work experience Windows proficient Program details: 4 month internship, 4 sessions/year 10-15 people per session (“cycle”) Rigorous screening process – 3% of candidates are accepted from 400 candidates considered for each cycle 70 hours per week developing client technology solutions Project-based teaching model provides IT experiences and connections for a career upon program completion Encourages social involvement and Leadership in the community DePaul CTI partnership facilitates continuing education upon completion of program Community 118 i.c.stars alums 60 CIO volunteers, sponsors, and employers of graduates 700 volunteers from CIO and Technology Organizations Download annual report: Monday, January 14, 2019 ©2006 i.c.stars. 5 Volunteer Opportunities
Role Description Frequency Duration/Timing Technology Coach Provide one on one coaching with an intern on web development, programming and database development 2hrs/week September – July Generally 3 months Resume Coach Work one on one with an i.c.stars intern over the course of several months of the program to coach and finalize their resume to a professional state. Can be done virtual 3hrs/month November – July Mock Interviewing Work with multiple interns at each mock interviewing session. Conduct CBI or Technical Mock Interviews on behalf of your own organization to provide real world interviewing experience. Can be done in person or via phone call 2hrs/session Scheduled sessions October – July Teaching join i.c.stars interns for a lunch and share insights on a particular topic of your choice You decide Fundraising events Work with other volunteers on the planning of one of our annual events 2hrs/month committee conference calls Year round High Tea Speaking Join i.c.stars in a one hour session to discuss business and technology strategy 1hrs/session 1-4 Scheduled sessions from October - June Monday, January 14, 2019 ©2006 i.c.stars.
