1 Book Response Presentation
September Choice Book

2 Objective I can present information, findings, and supporting evidence clearly, concisely, and logically such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning and the organization, development, substance, and style… I can use digital media in a presentation to enhance my understanding and findings!

3 What Am I asking you to do...
Read a book of your own choosing for the month of September! Create a PowerPoint, Prezi or other visual representation to… Introduce the book: Title & Author ONLY. Describe ONE Theme of the novel. Craft moves: Explain 2 literary elements, techniques or devices in the book. Discuss Conflict: internal or external? Characters in the book! Do you recommend this novel?

4 Textual Evidence For parts C & D you must include textual evidence from the novel!!!!!! I want to see the examples on your visual during your presentation!

5 HERE is an Example...

6 “Never Let me Go” by:Kazuo Ishiguro

7 Theme: Identity The characters question not only “Who am I?” but more specifically “What am I?” Understanding what it means to be a clone is a big part of Kathy figuring out who she is. She must decide if her identity is connected to the person she was modeled from, or if it doesn’t matter. She struggles the entire novel to understand who she is and her relation to normal humans. The novel leaves us questioning if Kathy ever finds herself or does she just accept her fate?

8 Writer’s Craft Moves: Literary Elements
Symbolism: Judy Bridgewater Cassette Tape "Judy Bridgewater. My old friend. It's like she's never been away" (Ishiguro, 99). Kathy has complicated friendships She listened to her cassette tape when she was a young girl at Hailsham. Listening to the tape is nostalgic. She has lost her friends and home, but can still remember the good times.

9 Writer’s Craft Moves: Literary Element
2. First Person Narrative/Unreliable Narrator Kathy is telling the story of her life at 31 reminiscing on her past Unreliable because her memory is very shaky and she often forgets details about her past “Or maybe I'm remembering it wrong”(Ishiguro,16). This story would have different facts if told by another character

10 Conflict: External The main characters are not in control of their fate. There is an external force deciding their futures. "None of you will go to America, none of you will be film stars. And none of you will be working in supermarkets as I heard some of you planning the other day. Your lives are set out for you" (Ishiguro,20).

11 Characters Kathy: Protagonist Ruth: Antagonist Tommy: Static Character
Madame Marie Claude Miss Emily Miss Lucy Chrissie & Rodney: Dynamic Characters Antagonist: Society
