How they made the film 'Pirates '

How it all began It all began with the director Peter Lord moreover he got inspiration from the book written by Gideon Difoe 'The Pirates in the Adventure of scientist' and that was what the pirates was originally from. The most difficult part was designing the buildings for the sets so it looks a bit like a actual city for the scene. The animators made it by animation CGI and animation stop motion to make the film look like a pirates city which was quite hard because they didn't know what a pirates city looked like so they just made it up and made it look realistic in animation form.

Designing the pirates world
They wanted it to be funny they experimented the whole thing moreover it must be humorous for the viewers. The person behind all the character designs was Jonny Duddle however, they wanted to give the pirate captain a big beard. In the film there were a lot of addons and features like the captains garden with the cactus. They said it had to be perfect and precise to make it look like a good film because of this, they of course needed a Director so Norman Garwood was the Director.

The  Story  They had story meetings to discus the script to give each other their ideas to make the film better for viewers to watch moreover, they thought that it was like a puzzle because it was hard putting it together and also trying to get it right. The Co-Director Jeff Newit and his crew decided that there were a few parts that didn’t go well in the film so they took them scenes out in addition to this, they had to practice the scenes over and over and over to get the perfect one for the film. Rejean Bordages is the Story Department man.

Puppet Making  Designing the pirate king was the most fun and exiting part of puppet making, because he was the biggest puppet! Kate Anderson and Andrew Bloxam are a few of the puppet designers. They made them 3D. They used steel skeletons to keep the puppets in place. Miniscule tools were used to  carve every little detail on the puppets. There are lots of sculptures to make and one person who helped make them was Debbie Smith. The silicone looked a like a lot like flesh ,that's why they used it .

Sets                    Mat Perry is a supervising art director moreover, Phil Lewis is also an art director but not a supervisor ,moreover, the people that worked on the 'Pirates' imagined that they were in the movie so it would feel a bit more at home. They couldn't buy any pirate props on the streets so they had to make there own props with leather in addition to this, Mike Apleblee is the instructor designer.

Mouths There were over 100 mouths for each character for every scene in the film. However, the way they made the mouths really intrigued our group because first, they made it on a computer and then printed it in 3D. Each mouth had a miniscule difference from all the others moreover, the person behind all the mouths is Michael Green The Pirate Captain had more mouths than any other character because he was the main character throughout the whole film. To make the mouths match the voice they had to put different types of mouths together to make them look like their talking.

Voice recording They’ve written scripts on paper and it takes months or sometimes even years until the actors come in, when this happens it suddenly comes to life. Hugh Grant is doing the voice of the pirate captain,if you’ve watched the bit wen he actually does it it’s funny because after every sentence he laughs so it is kind of hard to rely on the script ,it took 3 hours for him to finish 6 pages with his pirate voice. David Tennant does the voice of Charles Darwin - that’s one of the pirate captain’s favourite pirates in his crew. He usually wears a blue jacket, blue hat and blue trousers. Under his jacket he wears a red tie.

Animation and water Will Becher was the person who would do the movements of the characters throughout the film but in slow motion moreover, Julie Peguet was the Animator in the film. The hardest bit the actors said was the drunk scene in the city but what they do on screen is what we see while watching it. Frank Passingham was the Director of photography but the hardest bit in this bit was the sea because they didn’t want to make it too real but not too fake. They used a camera to make it look in the film that it was in a different angle but moving.
