Acadia: October 9th Saint Mary’s: Thursday, November 8th St. Thomas: Wednesday, October 17th Western: Wednesday, October 10th (SIGN UP for morning session) Mount St. Vincent: Monday, October 22nd- on the spot admissions/waive $40 fee NBCC: Thursday, October 11th (SIGN UP - ADMISSIONS ON THE SPOT) U of Alberta: Thursday, October 11th (SIGN UP 10am presentation) UNB: TBA – October 18th lunchtime / Royal Oaks Clubhouse Presentation (Parents & Students) October 18th 7pm (admissions on the spot) Dalhousie: Wednesday, November 22nd (SIGN UP) To Be Continued….

5 The SCHULICH Scholarship
Are you going to university to study Science, Technology, Engineering or Math? To Qualify: Graduating Canadian citizen/permanent resident Studying at a SHULICH partner university (website) Demonstrate academic excellence, e.g. average over 90% To Apply: High school scholarships committee selects 1 student to be their Schulich Leader Nominee (speak to your previous math/science teachers for recommendation – we have a committee that will submit nominee by January 30th Launched in 2012, this $100 million scholarship fund provides 50 undergraduate scholarships each year, across top Canadian universities. The most promising students can pursue their dreams and become the next global pioneers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

6 Nominee completes a separate Schulich Leader application (due February 20th)
Universities review applications and select their scholarship recipients Visit the website for more info Universities review applications and make offers March 1-June 14,2019 Application Details: Please pass in the following to Mrs. Gallant-Nowlan by Monday, November 19th: Universities and the desired programs you plan to apply / attend (Schulich partner universities only). Write a sentence or two for each of your desired universities and programs, e.g. why do they interest you?

7 Short answer to identify where they see themselves in 10 years
List and describe (2-3 sentences) your top three achievements (academic or other). Write a 250 word essay demonstrating why you would make a great Schulich Leader (if you are selected, a 600 word essay is required by the Schulich Foundation). Write a 250 word essay to outline any extenuating circumstances the scholarship committee should be aware of, e.g. financial, personal, academic, etc. Short answer to identify where they see themselves in 10 years Provide two letters of reference (at least one from a school staff member) – please use request for reference form. Additional – transcripts/headshot profile for publicity if selected.

8 The LORAN Scholarship Are you dedicated to serving others, show promise of leadership and have integrity, courage, compassion, grit and a high level of personal autonomy? 85% average/Canadian citizen or permanent resident/full-time studies Application Details: Grade 12 students may now apply at: apply.loranscholar.ca Submit a transcript, request a reference from a teacher or community member and have your school sponsorship confirmed before the deadline. To Receive Sponsorship: Pick up in house sponsorship form from Mrs. Gallant-Nowlan due October 2nd Deadline: October 17th at 8:00pm (Eastern Time). Each high school may sponsor up to 3 students, others apply in direct pool by October 24th at 8:00pm.

9 Semester 2 Action & Decisions
Applying to PSE: Application form Fee ($50 – 75) Transcript – fill out form at office College – rolling admissions means you can apply anytime (sooner is better than later) University apply by end of February in order to be considered for admission awards – some schools have a separate application for entrance scholarships 80% - $500+ 85+% - $1000+ 90+% - $1500+ Universities will contact you with admission decision and bursary offer by the end of March

11 When to apply for scholarships?
Getting ready to apply for scholarships, have you … Requested Reference letters? Give writers one week … do not wait until the last minute Updated your resume? Is my address “appropriate”? 13 Student Loans Apply in May 2019 when applications “open” for the Fall (September 2019) Required: your parents’ 2018 income tax assessment If you wait until July or August to apply, you may not receive your funding until AFTER university/college starts in September There will be a parent session in the evening second semester

14 Before graduating … What courses should I have on my transcript?
Marks – retake courses second semester? Should I keep notes from high school courses for future reference? Do not assume that you can return to this or another local high school to upgrade/retake courses you may need for PSE programs.

15 Planning to take a break between high school and post-secondary education?
What are my goals between high school graduation and college/university? take break from routine of school gain work experience save money travel volunteer do more research on career / post-secondary education opportunities
