Project description
This project is designed to evaluate, for inclusion into the GS1 System, a barcode symbol known as DotCode to support the EU Directive for fighting illicit trade. DotCode was designed to be generated at very high production speeds. Permitting this barcode symbol to carry GTIN and GTIN attributes will enable the industry to accurately identify and track products across supply chains, where scanning capability exists, or for where the scanning capability is explicitly planned to exist.

Objective
Create a restricted (e.g. not for use at point of sale) AIDC Application Standard to support printing and validation of a barcode (DotCode) with GTIN and dynamic data (e.g., serial number) on high-speed production lines.

On 5 October 2016, the GSMP work group approved the HSBP application standard, including a new barcode, GS1 DotCode. It is available on the GS1 website as “pending ratification ”
On 4 Sep 2017, the EU Commission released a new DRAFT EU Directive for fighting illicit trade
The WG met 10 October 2017 to review the directive and the comments submitted to the EU Commission by GS1 and discussed how it will impact the approved HSBP standard
