6 Mobile phones Mobile phones were originally developed to make and receive calls, but they have now developed into smart phones. These can be used for purposes that were never imagined when they were first launched. A smart phone is an example of a multifunctional device.

7 The things I would use my dream phone for
Your dream phone Think of your dream phone. Use the left-hand column of the table below to record all the things you think you would use your dream phone for. Next rank the entries in your list in terms of which you think you would use most often, where 1 = most often. The things I would use my dream phone for Ranking 3d printer 7 Plug hole for a keyboard 6 waterproof 2 Wifi everywhere 3 Xray 4 Really good camera 5 Unlimited storage 1

8 My Dream Phone IPhone 6 by Apple This is my dream phone as although it isn’t waterproof you can purchase waterproof protection and casing. In addition an unlimited data plan can be bought which means you can access the internet wherever there is service. The camera is around 12mp which is good for a camera especially a smart phone one. It has excellent easy to use features with an attractive screen resolution. The storage capacity can reach up to 64gb which means there is plenty of room for extra pictures and apps. Bluetooth is available and a secondary app doesn’t have to be installed to use the torch. Many useful utilities such as a calculator are already installed which makes the overall use much easier.

9 Choosing a phone Even if you know what features you want on your phone, how do you choose between the hundreds available? The following information could help you when deciding between the different phones on offer. Picture (or screen) resolution – refers to the quality and detail that can be shown on the screen of the mobile. The higher the resolution, the better the quality of the image displayed on screen. This is measured in pixels. Camera resolution – the amount of detail that the camera picks up in one picture. The higher the resolution, the more detail the camera picks up, but this means that the picture files can be very big. The resolution is measured in megapixels (MP). Storage capacity – the amount of space the phone has in it’s internal memory to store applications, pictures, sounds, videos etc. This is measured in gigabytes (GB). Memory card – a secondary storage device that allows users to store, backup, copy and remove their files. There are various cards available but SD or SDHC are the most common.

10 Choosing a phone Music and video player – these are a standard feature on many phones. The music and video files are stored in different formats e.g. MP3 and WAV for music and MP4, 3GP, AVI for video. Different phones allow to play different file formats which may or may not be compatible with your computer. Connectivity – To connect to the internet or share information with other phones, mobile phones need to be able to send and receive signals. As the phone is a ‘mobile’ device, it needs to be able to connect wirelessly The most common ways of connecting devices to each other are Bluetooth and WiFi. Network band – Mobile phones operate on different frequencies in different countries. To be able to connect with a phone on a different frequency, the phone needs to be able to receive one or more frequencies. A phone can be: Dual band – picking up 2 frequencies Tri band – picking up 3 frequencies Quad band – picking up 4 frequencies Having a quad-band phone allows you to use in in 5 different continents.

11 Apple iPhone 6 plus The apple iPhone 6 plus screen resolution is 1920× 1080 (401 PPI). Higher resolution the camera means better quality pictures but more memory taken up. The iPhone 6 plus camera is 8mp on the back and 1.2mp on the front. No card slot to put in extra memory. The internal memory can be 16gb/64gb/128gb. The phone with more memory costs more. There is no secondary storage device such as an sd. There is no capacity to put in a memory card. (Mp4plays video as well as music.) The iPhone 6 plus has the ability to play music as well as video. It comes with ACC, MP3 VBR, AIFF and WAV. (connectivity is joining devices together). It can be wired or wireless. The iPhone 6 can send and receive signals and connect wirelessly through wifi, Bluetooth and cellular data. It has new support for ac, you’ll experience up to 3x faster Wi‑Fi than with n. It can be plugged into a computer with an external wire and connect. It has LE Bluetooth. The IPhone 6 and 5 are quad band phones which means they can receive frequencies in all five continents. There are different radio wave frequencies in different places.

12 Recommend a phone Name: Ruby Jones Age: 15
Studying: GCSEs Digital devices: smart phone and laptop Your task is to use the internet to find a phone for Ruby. First decide what Ruby might want to use her phone for, then decide what features she will need to do those things. Then find a phone that will deliver these things the best. You must be able to give reasons for your choices. Use the next 2 slides for your answers. Ruby wants a phone that she can use to help her: Communicate with her friends Share information with her friends Organise her school work

13 Ruby’s phone What will Ruby want to use her phone for?
What features will she need to do this? E.g. Use Facebook Internet access Imessage IPhone Google Safari goes straight to google Snapchat Apple or Samsung appstore and internet access. ihomework Apple appstore My homework Facetime Apple and internet siri iphone

14 Ruby’s phone The phone I would recommend for Ruby is: The iphone 6
My reasons for recommending this phone are: The majority of young teens have iPhone so if she has imessage she will be able to communicate easily with her friends. She can also face time which is much better quality that skype or oovoo. She may FaceTime people to do homework with them. Apps such as snapchat and Instagram are available on the apple and Samsung appstore but not on many other ones which tend to favour Facebook. These apps are currently most popular and will keep her social life up to date. The iPhone also has Siri which means she can easily find help for homework without searching it online. This makes it much quicker. Apple offers many apps that help with schoolwork such as ihomework and myhomework which organise your lessons, deadlines and homework. These apps cannot be purchased on other appstores and the majority of revision apps are on the apple store not Samsung ect. Other devices such as nokia and htc use bing as a search engine which is not as hyped as google. Apple safari goes straight to google which means there is no need for making google your homepage. Alarms, torches and calenders are automatically downloaded which means you don’t need to download a secondary app which wastes memory. She can use the simple and easy to use alarms to wake herself up whilst having the nighttimemode on. She can silence her phone and still have her alarm on loud with an iphone. Insert a picture of the phone
