Comes from the Latin “medius” meaning “middle” Divides the body into right and left halves when viewed from the front

5 Planar Directions There are two directional terms associated with the median plane Medial Closer to the median plane Lateral Further from the median plane Toward the side

6 Sagittal Plane From the Latin “sagitta” meaning “arrow”
Any plane parallel to the median plane

7 Transverse Plane Passes through the head, trunk, or limb
Perpendicular to that part’s long axis

8 Dorsal Plane (Frontal)
Longitudinal Parallel to the body’s dorsal surface At right angles to the median plane
