1 Interpret the Remainder
Chapter 4 Lesson 3 Interpret the Remainder Goal: I can find and interpret a remainder based on the context of the story problem provided to me. Vocabulary: Interpret, remainder, quotient

2 Problem #1 Ben is a tour guide at a glass-blowing studio. He can take no more than 7 people at a time on a tour. If 80 people want to see the glass-blowing demonstration, how many groups of 7 people will Ben show around? What do I know? What do I need to find? What steps will I take to solve it? Solve. My answer is ________________ Ignore the remainder

3 Problem #2 There are 118 students in fourth grade. About 56 students can fit on each bus for our field trip. If we do not include the teachers, how many busses will we need to reserve for our trip? What do I know? What do I need to find? What steps will I take to solve it? Solve. My answer is ________________ Round the Quotient up to include the remainder

4 Problem #3 Whoops! We only reserved 2 busses for the field trip. If there are 118 students and 2 busses that hold 56 students each. How many students will not have a seat on a bus? What do I know? What do I need to find? What steps will I take to solve it? Solve. My answer is ________________ Use the remainder and ignore the quotient.

5 Ignoring the remainder and using the quotient
Its now your turn. Work with a partner to solve the problems below. Remember your are either: Ignoring the remainder and using the quotient Round the quotient up to include the remainder Ignoring the quotient and using the remainder Mrs. Leather has 46 beads.
