A specific speech course will not be a requirement under the Foundation High School Program. New Requirement: To receive a high school diploma, a student must demonstrate proficiency, as determined by the district in which the student is enrolled, in: delivering clear verbal messages choosing effective nonverbal behaviors listening for desired results applying valid critical-thinking and problem-solving processes identifying, analyzing, developing, and evaluating communication skills needed for professional and social success in interpersonal situations, group interactions, and personal and professional presentations

NEW Statewide Survey of Teachers and Administrators The Teaching, Empowering, Leading and Learning (TELL) Texas Survey House Bill 2012 Questions about teaching conditions that have been shown to be important to student achievement and teacher retention, such as instructional practices and support, time, school and teacher leadership, facilities and resources, community engagement, professional development, managing student conduct, and new teacher support April 5 – May 5 31, 2014 (you may delay start to May 1) Administered by New Teacher Center (NTC) Results after 5 weeks shared with districts and schools who have at least 50 percent of educators and five staff members participating

PD Audit One per LEA March 31 – April 14, May 1 – 31, 2014 Collecting data to inform agency action to eliminate conflicting and consolidate duplicative requirements by either taking administrative action, encouraging school district to make appropriate changes to district policies, or by recommending statutory changes to the state legislature Results will be used to examine state policy decisions around duplicative or restricting rules. Online House Bill 2012 The Teaching, Empowering, Leading and Learning (TELL) Texas Survey Teachers and Administrators April 5 (May 1) – May 31, 2014 This *ANONYMOUS*online survey asks questions about teaching conditions that have been shown to be important to student achievement and teacher retention, such as instructional practices and support, time, school and teacher leadership, facilities and resources, community engagement, professional development, managing student conduct, and new teacher support. Results after 5 weeks shared with districts and schools who have at least 50 percent of educators and five staff members participating Teachers and administrators will be able to access the survey using a unique, ANONYMOUS access code that will be included in the materials mailed to each school the week before the survey begins. Principal Survey to Evaluation Teacher Prep Programs Campus Principal May 1 – June 16, 2014 Collecting data regarding the performance of beginning teachers and the effectiveness of educator preparation programs in preparing beginning teachers to succeed in the classroom Data reported back to Educator Preparation Programs Available to principals via the TEA educator profile in the Educator Certification Online System (ECOS) on May 1, 2014 Required by TEC and TAC 229
