2 Warm-Up: Prior Knowledge
What do you already know about Romeo and Juliet? Why do you think this is the most famous of Shakespeare’s plays? What literary features do you think you will see in the play, and why?

3 Play Timeline Act I: Sunday, R&J meet at the Capulet party
Act II: Sunday night to Monday afternoon, R&J are married. Act III: Monday, Romeo kills a Capulet and is banished; Juliet gets “engaged” to a rich guy by her family Act IV: Tuesday, Juliet arranges and fakes her suicide. Act V: Wednesday-Thursday, Romeo misses the “faked” part, kills himself out of grief, Juliet sees and kills herself.

4 This Scene Romeo and Juliet met at a party.
Later that night, Romeo sneaks into Juliet’s backyard. He hears her talking about him, and reveals himself. They talk about love and decide to get married.
