1 Recommendation to the Board of Directors: New District Assessments

2 This recommendation is the result of three years of work by
District staff and community members. IPPC DARC DASC District Assessment Review Committee Instructional Program Planning Committee District Assessment Selection Committee

3 DASC Charge DASC was charged with reviewing potential districtwide level assessments which would be used for screening and progress monitoring in reading and math, providing input on piloting of selected assessments, reviewing the data from the pilots, and voting on which assessments to recommend to the district. DASC Process Fall - reviewed wide range of potential districtwide level assessments Winter - Piloted 8 selected assessments at all grade levels April - Studied data from the pilots & voted on assessments to recommend May - Recommendations approved by DIMC June - Submit to Board for approval

6 Assessment Pilots: Students, Teachers, and Parents Respond!
By The Numbers Assessment Pilots: Students, Teachers, and Parents Respond! 8 – Assessments piloted 74 – Teachers participated in the pilots 99 – Teacher responses on feedback survey (some teachers administered more than one assessment) 1,215 – Student responses on feedback survey (some students took more than one assessment) 3 – Meetings with parents (many of them Spanish speakers) at schools to gather their feedback on parent score reports.

7 Kindergarten to Grade 12 Math
The committee strongly recommends adoption of: Kindergarten to Grade 12 Math & Grade 1 to Grade 5 Reading Advantages: Evidence of contribution to school improvement in Washington; aligned with our math and reading standards; engaging student interface; rich score reports. Grade 6 to Grade 12 Reading Advantages: New version of our current SRI assessment currently in use for school planning; aligned with our reading standards; improved student interface; continuity of scores from previous years.

8 What About Kindergarten?
Kindergarten teachers will continue to administer the WaKIDS state assessment to all students. WaKIDS very extensive and is appropriate for screening students for additional support. The teachers will also have access to additional district supported classroom assessments to use at their discretion.

Mid-August 2018 – Training for Instructional Coaches and Teachers on Special Assignment August 21 – Training for Instructional Staff at In-Service Day Fall 2018 – Training for Staff on Using Scores for Screening and Progress Monitoring – Ongoing Support from District Staff
