Plants also need water to live and grow and most animals including humans eat plants. Many animals get water from streams or other sources of fresh water. They cannot drink water from the sea because it is salty. People need to drink lots of water when they exercise. Plants take in most of their water from the soil through their roots. Farmers need lots of water to grow crops. Most farmers in Cameroon start planting crops at the end of March because that is when the rainy season begins. Almost all the water we get on earth comes from rain. SHELTER. Many animals need shelter to protect them from weather or attack. Some animals use caves for shelter. Others dig a hole in the ground. People need shelter too. Shelters can be built from many kinds of materials. Caves give shelter to bats and other animals. A burrow is a hole dug in the ground by an animal for shelter. Moles are animals that live in burrows. Some people lived in caves and on trees as far back as one million years ago. Birds make their nest on trees an monkeys live on trees as well.
