2 Attendance State law requires that a student who has not yet reached the 19th birthday shall  attend school for the entire period the program of instruction is provided, as well as any applicable accelerated instruction program, extended year program, or tutorial session unless the student is otherwise excused from attendance or legally exempt. Age 19 and Older: Students that are 19 or older has more than five unexcused absences in a semester, the district may revoke the student's enrollment for the remainder of the school year. The student’s presence on school property thereafter would be unauthorized and may be considered trespassing. Failure to Comply with Compulsory Attendance:   Attendance Officers will implement truancy prevention measures designed to address the student attendance issues prior to filing a complaint with the Justice of the Peace a truancy court. Attendance for Credit: § A student in any grade level from kindergarden through grade 12 may not be given credit or a final grade for a class unless the student is in attendance for at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered.  The actual number of days a student must be in attendance in order to receive credit or a final grade will depend on whether the class is for a full semester or for a full year. 18 Week Course: 9 Absences 9 Week Course: 4 Absences

5 Foundation High School Program
To meet graduation requirements a student must master the following End-of-Course STAAR Assessments: English I English II Algebra I Biology U.S. History 5

6 Endorsements The endorsements consist of a coherent sequence of courses that are grouped together by interest or skill. Students will be able to earn one or more endorsements as part of their graduation requirements. Students may select from five endorsements that include: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Business and Industry Public Service, Arts and Humanities Multidisciplinary Studies

An endorsement will be earned by successfully completing: curriculum requirements for the endorsement four credits in mathematics four credits in science

8 Performance Acknowledgments
Students may earn a performance acknowledgment on their diploma because of outstanding performance in the following areas: Dual Credit Courses - 12 hours Articulated Courses - 12 hours Bilingualism and biliteracy PSAT, PLAN/ASPIRE, ACT, SAT, and/or AP Exams Earning a nationally or internationally recognized business or industry certification or license

11 Beginning with the Class of 2022
Class Ranking NEW! Beginning with the Class of 2022 The district shall use a 100 point grading scale to calculate a student’s cumulative GPA by including all grades earned. Courses should be weighted as follows for GPA purposes: Category AP Courses for which a student takes and scores a 3,4, or 5 on the corresponding AP exam will receive additional weight if the student earns a final average of 70 or better. (+5 pt weight) Tier I: AP, eligible Dual Credit, Pre AP, and other (locally identified weighted courses designated in the course catalog (+10 pt weight) Tier 2: Regular Courses (No weight) **Approved Dual Credit Courses NOT completed at UISD will not receive additional weight. The District shall record unweighted numerical grades on transcripts and report cards.

12 Graduation Honors Beginning with the class of 2022 and thereafter, honor graduates shall meet all graduation requirements under the FHSP and shall complete the DLA with at least one endorsement. The cumulative GPA used in designating honor graduates shall be calculated at the end of the third nine-week grading period of the senior year. Students shall be recognized as honor graduated according to the following criteria: Valedictorian Highest Cumulative GPA Salutatorian Second Highest Cumulative GPA Summa Cum Laude Overall GPA of 100 or higher Magna Cum Laude Overall GPA of 95-99 Cum Laude Overall GPA of 90-94

13 HS College Credit Opportunities
Early Start Pathway Advanced Placement Program Dual Credit Programs (HB 1 Program) Concurrent Enrollment *In order to qualify for programs offering college courses, a student must have an 85 GPA or better and be TSI ready.

14 Placement Exam: TSI A placement exam determines college readiness and is required by colleges to enroll students in appropriate classes.   The TSI (Texas Success Initiative ) test consists of three exams: Mathematics, Reading and Writing. Students who had an 85 GPA or better at the end of the previous year will qualify to test free of charge at L. B Johnson. Students may opt to test earlier on their own if they want to enroll in the ESP or Concurrent Enrollment courses. Fee: $6 per test at Laredo College

15 Early Start Pathway UISD strives for excellence and recognizes the importance of academic achievement. Thus, we recognize the value of the Early Start Pathway, which will encourage students to earn an equivalent of up to 33 hours of dual credit while in high school. The following courses are part of the Early Start Pathway (ESP). Art 1301 – Art 9th HIST 1301 – SS Advanced Studies (10th) HIST 1302 – US History (11th) ENGL 1301 – English 3 (11th) ENGL 1302 – English 4 (12th) - 1st Part MATH XXXX – 4th Math (12th) ENGL 2327 – English 4 (12th) – 2nd part GOVT 2305 – Government (12th) GOVT 2306 – SS Special Topics (12th) PSYC 2301 – Psychology (12th) SOCI 1301 – Sociology (12th) Total 33 Hours

17 Automatic College Admission
Under Automatic Admission policy (Texas Education Code ), Texas students may be eligible for automatic admission to a state or university as an undergraduate student if they meet certain criteria. They must: Rank in the top 10% of his/her class, including Distinguished Level of Achievement Rank in the top 7% of his/her class for the University of Texas [Class of 2019] Note: Students have to ensure that all requisites or required documents are completed/received by the institution you are applying to by the application deadline and be sure to enroll in college no more than two years after graduating from high school.
