PROGRESS ON MALAWI CENSUSINFO

Malawi is using CensusInfo as a dissemination platform of 2008
Population and Housing Census.

BACKGROUND A team of 3 NSO officers attended a UNSD organized workshop held in Maputo in November 10 NSO officers attended a National CensusInfo Training held in December at NSO in Zomba, with technical assistance from UNSD

OUTPUT A draft Malawi Census Info Database was available in Dec 2010
Validation of indicators in the database was done from April - June 2011 The online version was tested from October – December 2011

DISSEMINATION Malawi CensusInfo was disseminated to District Assembly officials and District Health Officers from all 28 districts in Malawi in February 2012 The online version available online in February 2012 The database contains 56 INDICATORS

USES Sub national data used by district planning offices
Maps from Census Info were used in regional level census dissemination workshops. NSO printed wall charts based on 2008 Census. Graphs like the ones presented were part of the wall chart content

SUMMARY Malawi NSO will continue advocating for use of CensusInfo by using all available forums: meetings, workshop There will be need to train more stakeholders from Line ministries on how to access indicators from the CensusInfo online database using MASEDA approach Increased availability through production of CDs before mid- year with funds permitting
