2 The Synthesis Essay The synthesis conversation would involve the kind of calm, considerate regard that comes with listening to and thinking about many voices before making up and speaking one’s own mind.

4 What is the Synthesis Essay?
First of the three free-response AP essays – (2 hours 15 minutes total for the three essays) 55 minutes - 15 minutes to read sources, approximately 40 minutes to write Prompt, plus six to eight relatively brief sources - texts of no more than a page, plus at least one graphic, visual, picture, or cartoon (pro/con) “Synthesize” info from a variety of sources to create your own argument on the topic

IMPORTANT: Requires a persuasive argument Presenting your argument in response to the prompt Must use facts/ideas provided in the sources to support your argument – but DO NOT summarize sources Synthesize/Incorporate info from at least 3 of the provided sources May also draw upon own knowledge of the subject, but must use at least three of the provided sources.
