1 Carbon-dioxide emission
Climate change Carbon-dioxide emission

2 Cow 'emissions' more damaging to planet than CO2
Meet the world's top destroyer of the environment. It is not the car, or the plane,or even George Bush: it is the cow.

3 A United Nations report has identified the world's rapidly growing herds of cattle as the greatest threat to the climate, forests and wildlife. And they are blamed for a host of other environmental crimes, from acid rain to the introduction of alien species, from producing deserts to creating dead zones in the oceans, from poisoning rivers and drinking water to destroying coral reefs.

5 KYOTO PROTOCOL The Kyoto Protocol is a protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC or FCCC), aimed at combating global warming. The UNFCCC is an international environmental treaty with the goal of achieving "stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system." The Protocol was initially adopted on 11 December 1997 in Kyoto, Japan and entered into force on 16 February As of October 2009, 184 states have signed and ratified the protocol. The most notable non-member of the Protocol is the United States, which is a signatory of UNFCCC and was responsible for 36.1% of the 1990 emission levels.

6 The aim is to set up new targets until 2020.
COPENHAGEN 09. December 2009 The aim is to set up new targets until 2020.

7 World CO2 emission in the different regions

8 As we could see it on the previous slide America and Asia emit the largest amount of CO2. (They are not bound by the Kyoto Protocol, either!!!)

9 Hot spots of energy use/loss
Walls and roofs Windows and doors Heating system (75%) Hot water production (11%)

10 Do not let it happen!!!

11 What can WE do? Turn off the light Have a shower instead of bath
Reduce heating Switch off electric machines (not only stand by) Use public transport, ride a bike Etc… 
