9. Problems Caused by Erosion
Soil Erosion- When agriculture fields replace natural vegetation, topsoil is exposed and can dry out. The diversity and quantity of microorganisms that help to keep the soil fertile can decrease, and nutrients may wash out. Soil can be blown away by the winds or washed away by rains.

10. Beach Erosion- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that between 80 and 90 percent of the sandy beaches along America’s coastlines have been eroding for decades. In many of these cases, individual beaches may be losing only a few inches per year, but in some cases the problem is much worse. The outer coast of Louisiana is losing some 50 feet of beach every year.

You can’t stop erosion, but we have found ways to slow it down.

Using chemicals that help hold the soil together.

13. Improving drainage, diverting water away from problem areas.
