2 The President’s Executive Powers:
As the head of the executive branch, these are the President’s primary responsibilities!

3 Executing the Laws: The president is responsible for carrying out the nation’s laws. Must enforce all laws, not just those with which he agrees Presidents interpret the laws in that they decide how aggressively they will enforce the laws...

4 Executive Orders: the ordinance power
The bureaucracy of the executive branch is under the authority of the President Executive orders are given as rules of operation for the departments These orders have the force of law! Executive orders are necessary for the functioning of the branch.

5 Appointing powers of the President:
President chooses his high officials in the branch (such as the cabinet) The highest officers must be approved by the Senate (Checks and Balances) Most federal officials in the government’s work force are selected by the Civil Service, and are not under his direct control

6 The Removal Power: Historically, there has been disagreement over whether the President has the power to remove officials appointed without the consent of Senate This power has been generally upheld by the courts Exceptions are federal judges and members of independent regulatory agencies
