Starter #2: Today’s lesson reviews what you should know already about using apostrophes. Most of the rules for using apostrophes have to do with what kind of nouns?

4. sheep + ’s = sheep’s means “belonging to the sheep”
Starter #3 In our mini-unit on nouns, we learned these three rules about possessive nouns:
Rule #1 Use an apostrophe and an “s” (’s) to form a possessive of a singular noun.
boy + ’s = boy’s horse + ’s = horse’s
  Rule #2 Use an apostrophe and an “s” (’s) to form a possessive of a plural noun that does not end in “s.”
children + ’s = children’s means “belonging to the children”
sheep + ’s = sheep’s means “belonging to the sheep”
Rule #3 Use an apostrophe alone to form the possessive of a plural noun that ends in “s.”
Monkeys + ’ = monkeys’ libraries + ’ = libraries’
This is the EASIEST rule to apply because there are no exceptions!

5. Rule #4 Do NOT use an apostrophe in a possessive pronoun.
