1 The Zoom In Routine A routine for examining details and making interpretations. Requires learners to pay close attention to detail and make inferences. Each section is revealed, students make new inferences. Students come to the realisation that thinking is a process and minds can be changed based on new understandings. By getting the students to make tentative hypotheses, we are emphasising the importance of being able to change your mind when confronted with new information. the main idea behind using this routine is to begin to link the idea of metacognition and visualisation.   that is, the students are making their predictions of what will be revealed next in the image and what images, words or symbols are coming to mind during this process.

2 Questions you could pose to the students
1. Looking Closely at the Small Bit of Image That IS Revealed What do you see or notice? What is your hypothesis or interpretation of what this might be based on what you are seeing? 2. Reveal More of the Image What new things do you see?  How does this change your hypothesis or interpretation?  Has the new information answered any of your wonders or changed your previous ideas? 3. What new things are you wondering about? Repeat the Reveal and Questioning Until the Whole Image Has Been Revealed 4. What Lingering questions remain for you about this image?

3 Tips for Creating a Successful Zoom in Routine
Choose something meaning so it doesn’t become a game Walk yourself through your proposed sequence of reveals to question what you are seeing and how much and what type of information is revealed each time. Ask yourself, will it challenge students’ thinking? Encourage students to make connections to other situations when their thinking has changed as they learned more about a situation.
