3. UM System Investment – Student Success
Missouri Compact Scholarships - $100 million
$75 million for the Promise & Opportunity Scholarships to meet the unmet needs of students
$25 million in Next Generation Merit Scholarships
Digital Learning Initiatives - $20 million
Investments will increase enrollment of Missouri students, National Merit Scholars, retention and graduation rates, job placement and reduce debt at graduation.

4. UM System Investment – Research & Creative Works
Translational Precision Medicine Complex (TPMC) - $50 million
TPMC is the top priority for the UM System
Research and Creative Works - $50 million
Distinguished Research Professorships - $12 million
Directed Projects - $2 million

$250,000 Missouri Compact Summits
$125,000 University Open Houses

Outreach and Engagement- $10 million
Expand presence in every county, increase access to education and healthcare, and support the agricultural community
Inclusive Excellence - $8.5 million
Planning, Operations & Stewardship - $7.5 million
Programs for faculty and staff to ensure their continued success

6. UM System Investment - Timeline
September 14 – Announcement and call for proposals
Mid September-Mid October – Town Hall Meetings
Mid October – Committees formed to evaluate proposals
November 30 – Proposals due
December 1 – January 15 – Committees evaluate proposals
January 15 – Committees make recommendations to President
February 2 – President and General Officers make final selections
February 9 – Proposal awards announcement to Board of Curators
Annually – Funded projects reviewed and decision made to continue funding or stop projects without demonstrated success

7. Process for “research and creative works” proposals
Proposals should be:
Interdisciplinary (participants from other UM System Universities encouraged)
Build on current strengths while pointing in new directions
Open new research areas
Enable access to new funding agencies
Proposals due October 12:
5 page max
Description of the broad research area and how it connects to existing research, ongoing projects, and facility and space availability
Why this research area will elevate S&T’s research in the next 5 years: references to current and future funding trends (RFPs, RFIs, BAAs, etc.), citations from professional or other organizations recognizing the growth of the area, etc.
Proposed number of faculty hires with their level (Assistant, Associate, Full, Research vs. T/TT).
Expected cost of the investment to set up the new area and to hire the new faculty: equipment, renovations, start-ups, other.
Connections to undergraduate and graduate education, including current
and future programs, minors, and certificates.

8. Process for “research and creative works” proposals (2)
Up to 5 resumes of participating faculty
Optional addendum of examples of potential hires
Inform the VCR of proposal members by October 7 so we can select a review panel
The review panel will provide recommendations to the Chancellor, the Provost, the VCR, and the Deans who will collectively decide which proposal(s) will move forward to the President. While the merit of the proposal will be an important evaluation criterion, we will also gauge the ability of S&T to match the projected System investment and to raise philanthropic funds in the area, among other final selection criteria.
